A return to a different way of living

Where shorehugger begins

shorehugger begins with its founder, Jen Luther.

Jen grew up on the North Shore of Vancouver, where community and daily life is shaped by ocean, forest, mountains, climate, and togetherness.

That environment naturally encouraged a set of practices:

  • spending time outdoors

  • moving with the seasons

  • hosting and gathering with close ones

  • valuing practical competence over status

  • finding restoration in the natural world

Two ways of moving through the world

Later, Jen’s career in technology pulled her into a very different environment: fast-paced, digital, highly productivity-driven, and increasingly AI-generated. Over time, she began to notice the tension between two ways of living.

Most people don’t fully live in one or the other. They move between them, consciously or not. Either way, it often feels uncomfortable.

  • fast

    digital

    productivity driven

    status oriented

    designed around efficiency and output

    increasingly AI-generated

  • seasonal

    tactile

    relational

grounded in place and present moment

shaped by weather, landscape, and community

aware of the preciousness of existence

Why shorehugger exists

shorehugger began as a way of remembering the values Jen grew up with and intentionally returning to them.

What started as a set of personal practices began to resonate with others, as friends and neighbours expressed interest in learning and relating.

Shorehugger exists to inspire people to rediscover their values and build small daily rituals that keep them feeling fully alive.

Sometimes that happens on the North Shore of Vancouver.

Sometimes it happens in San Francisco.

The landscapes are different, but the values can travel.

What shorehugger offers

Through content, photography, and objects, Shorehugger introduces:

  • the landscapes of the North Shore and Bay Area

  • the values shaped by those environments

  • the daily behaviors that express those values, practiced in both fast-paced modern environments and slower, more seasonal ones

Over time, the goal is for people to recognize themselves in these values and begin living them in their own environments.
